Strawberries and Cream Video – An unwritten recipe
Some dishes don’t require a written recipe. Many home cooks we know grew up cooking without the guidance of the written word. Their kitchen lessons and “recipes” were passed down from generation to generation by watching, touching, tasting, testing and cooking from the heart.
Do you know of anyone who cooks like this? We know of many home cooks who have prepared food for us and these were some of the most wonderful meals that we have ever eaten. These dishes were made with so much love and heart.
So, to celebrate and honor those cooks, recipes and kitchen traditions, we made this video. Filming this video reminds us of those simple dishes that only require some thought, patience and a bit of trial and error.
Here is the recipe story we made.
The strawberries in the garden are still plentiful and they were the perfect subjects to film for this strawberries and cream video. With a fresh berries, cream, powdered sugar and vanilla, we treated ourselves to the perfect afternoon snack.
Hopefully by watching this video, you’ll get an understanding of how to make this extremely simple whipped cream. All it takes is some personal touches to make it sweet to your personal taste.
Do you have any favorite dishes that you make or someone makes for you that you really don’t have a recipe for? Would love to hear!
Have a great day!

Hi Guys
I really loved this video!
Magic atmosphere!
Todd: your simple but poetic gestures litterally hooked me to the screen.
The colours and images are awesome and I particularly liked those teeny tiny details of your kitchenware…

so serene: the music, the walk in the garden -with dog- to pick berries, the hand whipping of the cream… and of course the eating a simple pleasure. Lovely.
Fresh ingredients always taste best!
I think everyone should have a handful of recipes they know by heart. There’s something comforting and rather empowering, knowing I can walk into my kitchen and just make something (assuming I have the ingredients, of course) without much thought or trouble. As much as I love the challenge of new recipes, sometimes the old standbys are best — after all, they reached that coveted recipe status for a reason!
stunning video.
I need to look into getting some strawberry plants for our new garden.
Nice!
The video was beautifully done. I felt like I was right there with you two. I grew up with a strawberry patch in our back yard. My dad was convinced it was futile to grow them here. Little did he know it was because us kids went out while he was at work and ate them every day. He never saw a ripe strawberry. I have to say until I started blogging I never followed or wrote recipes down. It’s been my biggest challenge to overcome. I’m getting better though. All things take time.
Delightful video.
I love to grill sliced zucchini that’s been brushed with olive oil, and sprinkled with fresh pepper and salt. When just cooked, but showing off those fragrant black stripes, I pull them off the grill and lay them on one half a platter, sprinkled with chopped, fresh mint. Next, I slice up some beautiful, fresh buffalo mozzarella and lay it on the other half of the platter, drizzle it all with a bit more olive oil and coarse salt. Finally, I take a loaf of rustic bread, brush the slices with olive oil, grill them until I’ve got some charred edges, take them off the grill, rub ’em with fresh garlic, drizzle a bit more olive oil on there, lightly sprinkle with salt and fresh pepper on and serve the grilled bread with the platter. It is simply heaven, and absolutely gorgeous. Lately I’ve been thinking of throwing some prosciutto into the mix.
Gorgeous video! Thank you for sharing!
This is such a lovely little video! Adorable!

Every since I learnt how easy it was to make whipped cream, I have been making it myself! Those strawberries look scrumptious!
Absolutely lovely. No matter what mood I am in, your videos instantly bring me a little more joy. Thank you for that.
Beautiful video. Thank you for that.
Dreamy and sweet, such a great feel to this video. I can almost smell the strawberries.
I love making mac and cheese on the fly for my kids…especially on a rainy day. It has to have several kinds of cheeses, usually several different types available in my fridge and topped off with bacon. We all fill up our bowls, cuddle up and have a big bowl of love, together. Seconds is always a must.
Lovely video! There is a pork and tomato dish my mom taught me to make. We have never used a recipe for that one. She learned it from my grandfather. I also never use a recipe for chili. Just put in everything that sounds good and needs to be used up! Same with egg dishes. I love fritattas made with whatever I have in the fridge.
The video is stunning, I wish I watched it in the morning: it really sets a mood for a day (well, the rest what’s left at least). Brilliant!
All your videos are so incredibly beautiful!!!
