Video: On Assigment with Penny: Austin Food Trailers
Episode #2: On Assignment with Penny: Austin Food Trailers
Video completely shot on iPhone
Sometimes we don’t have to travel far to find inspiration. Meaningful stories and moments happen in our own backyard. The story we’re sharing you today is a perfect example of this. Last week we premiered the first episode of On Assignment with Penny, a video project we’re collaborating with our friend Penny De Los Santos.
This video series we produced together is “On Assignment with Penny”, which is an intimate and personal view into Penny’s travels, but most importantly, to celebrate her subjects and their powerful stories with you all. Our first episode last week was in Boston with Chef Joanne Chang of Myers + Chang, Flour Bakeries.
Today we’re proud to feature the Austin Food Trailer episode. This food trailer story very personal reflection by Penny and her deep connection to Austin, which she calls home.
In this video, Penny led a group of friends on a fantastic bike taco crawl of Austin, where we ate our way through some of the best food trailers in the city. Making some fun cameo appearances are Gaby WhatsGabyCooking.com , Georgia GeorgiaPellegrini.com , Elise SimplyRecipes.com and Kathleen KathleenFlinn.com . You can also watch how Penny approaches her iphone shots of the food trailers.
Hope you enjoy the videos as much as we all enjoy producing them!

browsing around after seeing the Mikey video, I’m filled with doubt and desire all at once. I want to make beautiful things too. 🙂 Squash doubt focus on desire.
Love this. Short but has so many elements of a story. I shoot videos on my iphone but need your advice on post production software that you have used. Much appreciated. Looking forward to your next production.
love this! i am a former austin-ite, graduated from UT and spend 2-4 weeks there every year! captured a neat “essence” of austin. sad, though, that NONE of your bike riders had helmets on. it only takes a simple fall for someone to suffer tragically…. helmets save lives…… so that we can go on more bike rides looking for more fantastic food and experiences.
I finally took some time to calm down after returning to work after Boulder and got to watch these On Assignment videos. I am in LOVE with them!
I think it’s so great that you show that it’s not about what kind of camera you have, but it’s really about using what you have to tell a story. Thank you for this inspiration! I really needed it this morning 🙂
LOVE this guys! So cute, every time I watch Penny she gives me chills. She is just so passionate and she cant help but make you feel inspired. Angelic 🙂 Lovely
LOVE Penny’s work and of course Texas!!! It’s such a small foodie world and we hope that when we are ready you will produce our cookbook trailer. You guys are so talented and capture REAL natural beauty in everything you do!
The collaboration between you, and Penny, and iPhone is magic. This episode made me want to hop on a plane to Austin. There’s no higher compliment!
Oh man, I really think you should come check out this Pakistani place called Shalimar in the bay area. Its has the most amazing Indian food I have had in the US and trust me I have eaten a LOT in the past 6 years I have lived in the US. Whenever you are in San Fran you should eat there once and you will know what I am talking about 🙂
Loving all your videos! Keep ’em coming.
I love these. What app is used to get that look with the photos? Or are the photos edited later (with actions)?
Thanks for your production skills on this–I miss Austin, and this video was a welcoming glimpse back into its loveliness.
As an Austinite – thank you for sharing another awesome view of my hometown. We love it here… even when it’s insanely hot – and these kinds of food experiences are one BIG reason why.
Thanks!
This is great — so interesting getting little snippets of others’ lives and the food they eat — amazing that you shot this with an iPhone!!
Love this — so inspiring. And, you must tell me how you shot this with your iPhone (pretty please!).
Love that you worked with Penny. I was just in Mexico City with her.
And thank you for the awesome experience here in Boulder. (I am sitting here in The Kitchen and typing up some notes making sure I don’t forget too many things :))
Boulder and Food & Light has been amazing! 🙂
Love this! And I love Austin. l.o.v.e. a.u.s.t.i.n.
