AWESOME! I love the references to his Hawaiian roots and his time in SE Asia:-) Are the bitter’s supposed to represent his time in Chicago?
Nah, like we mentioned on Julia’s comment, it was there just to add depth of flavor. But, one might consider that by tasting a bit of life’s bitterness, we are able to enjoy the sweetness even more. -WORC
godspeed mr. president… (raising my virtual drink)
mmmm. that certainly looks delicious! i love the flavors!
Hi, Guys,
Nice to have a drink with you on this most auspicious day. I have to have a regular ‘tini since I don’t have pineapple juice on hand; but I will get some tomorrow.
In the meantime, I raise my glass to the Obamas – may they live in The White House in peace – and to you – may you flourish in 2009!
another appropriate one for the occasion might be the Bushwhacker #4 from

2 oz. Coconut Cream
2 oz. Pineapple (Crushed)
1 oz. Amaretto
1 oz. Bailey’s Irish Cream
1 oz. Kahlua
Hmm, I think I have all those ingredients. Shall have to make some tonight!
Cheers T&D! I love how you found a way to incorporate such different ingredients to mirror the new Pres.
How nice, I love it. Certainly time to look forward and forget any bitterness from the past. Today is a trully happy day and it deserves a beautidul cocktail like this one.
Mr. B and I will be raising a glass with you tonight! Here’s to a future filled with hope not fear.
Beautiful and yummy drink.
I am not a huge fan of gin, i like more vodka.
Sante to obama 😉
At first we made this with Vodka, and it seemed a bit flat. We used Hendricks Gin and it added a deeper character to the cocktail. We’d encourage you to give this one a shot with the gin, if you are daring. -WORC
I’ll drink to that! L’Chaim!
Curious to know, what makes this cocktail a tribute to Obama? The pineapple for his Hawaiin roots, the bitters to remind us of the bush years we’re trying to recover from?
Sorry Julie, we forgot to add that part on the post. It was only on the printable recipe archive. As you guessed, the pineapple was for his Hawaiian roots. The bitters was actually just to add depth of flavor, not to remind us of the past. It is a time to look forward, not back with bitterness. But one might say that after experiencing a bit of life’s bitterness, we are able to savor our days more. The lime for was the brightness of his intelligence, and the chilies were for the fire of his character and convictions. Thanks for asking. -WORC
