The pictures are beautiful and it never ceases to amaze me how the most ordinary scene can look so exotic when seen through travelers’ eyes.

Immensely enjoying your report from Japan! Sorry you couldn’t get to the top of Mr. Fuji; I hear it’s breathtaking. And I’m also sorry nobody told you that, in Kyoto, days start late. Most shops don’t open until 11:00 a.m. Even Starbucks don’t open until 9 or 10:00 a.m.. Never understood why.

I see that you went to Arashiyama — it’s one of my favorite areas in Kyoto. It’s so, so gorgeous, don’t you think? I’m excited that you went outside of the expected “Gion, Ponto-cho, Kiyomizu-temple” excursion, although there is a reason why that area is so popular.

Can’t wait to see your next post, except you’re making me REALLY miss Japanese food….
