“I think every woman should have a blow torch” – Julia Child.

These words, Julia’s words, are brilliant. I can’t help it but to look it up again every so often because it makes me laugh out loud and it doesn’t matter where I am when I’m reminded of it, people look at me crazy because I’m laughing into the wind. I’m totally cool with looking like a looney and giggling because Julia’s words just strike a chord with me.

I can interpret Julia’s words literally and say “Yes! all chicks need a good flame for creme brulee.”.

And I can see her words figuratively and feel so empowered by her statement. What ever she was trying to say, I agree with all of it. Yes, every woman needs that source of inspiration, of flame, of fiery passion and that occasional bit of heated vent. Be open, strong, feisty and fierce with your commitment to what ever is that you are doing.

Oh, blow torches are for boys too. Let’s not forget that boys like to play with fire. Todd has three blow torches of his own!  I just wanted to leave you with Julia’s words for the upcoming weekend. Interpret it how you may, but most importantly, I hope that it gives you the same chuckle and smile that it does for me.

Aside from this quote, here are some other things that I found to make me happy:

- Apricots. They’re coming into season now and I’m as happy as ever. And guess what? We finally carved out a space in the garden to plant our very first apricot tree! We are super excited to introduce a Gold Kist apricot to our SoCal garden.

- I love breakfasts. This breakfast pizza is killing me softly. It looks incredible.

- I need my lunches, it’s my biggest meal of the day. I want need these fully loaded spring samosas.

- And for dinner, this avocado romaine salad.

- These mango & salted coconut popsicles for dessert!

Eat well, friends and have a wonderful weekend.

-diane

If you’ve ever experienced either one of those, you’ll know that they both pose their own set of challenges. More on […]

Pinterest gets me in trouble, and it isn’t even from me browsing. Diane will be lying on the couch at the end of the day, scrolling along while I catch up to the sports world on ESPN. Then suddenly she’ll pipe up “I want that”, thrusting her phone towards me. What am I supposed […]

The Best Dog Biscuits EVER – According to Sierra

Thumbnail image for The Best Dog Biscuits EVER – According to Sierra

“Incentives.” That’s what we have to call dog biscuits now around the house. The pups have long figured out “treats” and spelling out the letters to each other in this LOL world was starting to get old. We’ve gotten in the habit of using letters instead of words so much I’ve started glancing over my […]

Can’t say much more than the title. There are good cookies and there are “really” good cookies, so good that you’ll allow yourself to half a dozen in one sitting. The type of cookies that allow yourself to indulge in eating pleasures without any post-guilt feelings are worth having in your recipe box. And […]

Blood Orange Margarita with Bitters

by White on Rice Couple March 15, 2013

Just as Diane has her prop collecting obsession, I have my own vice. Well, more like a double vice since most toss drinking into that classification. I am mildly bedeviled by making cocktails. There is something exquisitely alluring in what has become a combination of ritual and swagger. A little James Bond, a dash of […]

As I was re-organizing my prop room this weekend after what looked like a tornado hit it, I couldn’t help but to wonder, “Was I a hoarder or a collector?” Though I always manage to organize my precious junk in color coordinated shelves and boxes, it would be hard for me to explain my well […]

It’s in the air, all over the neighborhood and in front of grocery stores. Tis’ the season of Girl Scout cookies and this year, I swore that I’d only give in to buying one box, or two at the most. Over the last few years, there was a bright neon flashing sign on  my forehead […]
