Want to know what goes on behind the scenes of one of our food photography shoots in our studio? Well finally, here it is! So many of you have asked for a video and sneak peak into all the scenes that happens on our shoots. Because we’re always so busy in the kitchen and behind the camera, it’s so hard to execute the video filming process. Why? because we want to be the ones filming the video part. We’re just crazy multi-taskers that way!
But we finally decided to figure out all the details and work it out for our latest shoot with KitchenAid for their new recipes on their brand new blog. Have you seen it? It’s gorgeous and full of incredible recipes by wonderful food bloggers in the community. You must check out KitchenAid’s new blog called the Kitchenthusiast at www.KitchenAid.com/blog
When KitchenAid contacted us to photograph 40 lead photo’s for their new series of Challenge Recipes, we were thrilled at the chance to be photographing all these blogger recipes. What these series of recipes entail are culinary challenges that encourage cooks to take on a technique or recipe to inspire you to get into the kitchen and make something amazing. Each recipe challenge is executed beautifully by a blogger and what you’ll see are their informative step-by-step instructions, as well as a final recipe to help you take your skills to the next level.
Our job on this first day of shooting was to photograph, food-style and prop-style sixteen of those recipes. Whew. And then we shot them all on white sweeps. Double Whew. Then we wanted to document the day so we had two more cameras for shooting video clips of the behind the scenes. Triple Whew.
Finally, we had a fabulous wrap party at our house where we grilled up some bbq and made plenty of cocktails. Yes, yes and yes.
It was a wonderful day and the amazing team made it all possible. Thanks to Rachel and David from Digitas who flew in from New York City and Chicago for the shoot. Their creative guidance and direction was so helpful. And thanks to our rock-star studio team of Nancy from A Communal Table, Jennie from Devour The World and Alex from Alex T Cooks for assisting in the kitchen and washing a ton of dishes!
Hope you enjoy the video and welcome to our studio….. and the big mess! We’re keeping it real for you all to see!
hugs,
diane and todd

Great video and photography, i loved it!
Thanks so much. The camera stand is made by Foba. This is their 8′ stand.
I have watched your video 3 times on repeat, and each time I see that cupboard with chock full of pros, it brings so much excitement! Really love how you set up the studio, and I need to learn from you on how to get a big display of the image? I am shooting for my book but i really dont have the technical expertise :-(..and the images are not sharp enough when blown up!

Question: what setup do you use to tether to the ipad?
Lindsay- we actually don’t tether to the ipad. We just use it as a secondary screen if we need to place it in the kitchen for the kitchen team or client meeting room for easier view. We use Air Display to transmit the images via wi-fi http://avatron.com/apps/air-display
I all your wqooden boards, I want them all 🙂
