It’s safe to say that regardless of how many tacos we eat, we can always find room in our stomachs to fit more.  Layers of fresh salsa, pickled vegetables and warm chile heat make tacos so exciting to eat. Each is unique, customized and no two tacos are alike.

Citrus Tequila Shrimp Skewers – Good Bite Video

August 3, 2010

There are few things which declare California summers like grilled shrimp and tequilla. Usually in separate moments, or side by side… Margarita anyone?!  However in an instant of lazy brilliance, we combined the two to form an intoxicating bit of deliciousness.»

Teriyaki Burgers w/Homemade Teriyaki Sauce – Think outside the bottle

May 28, 2010
Thumbnail image for Teriyaki Burgers w/Homemade Teriyaki Sauce – Think outside the bottle

A while back, we were lamenting about how overly sweet and artificial some bottled teriyaki sauces were. With the exception of one that we liked on our teriyaki burgers, most were too sugary. Fake tasting. Processed. Yuck.

With the grilling season underway, we wanted some teriyaki variety to our bbq menu and it was always a struggle to search for a bottle that didn’t look like a goop of sugary, sticky brown blue. We needed to think outside the bottle and needed to be quick about it because guests were coming over in a few hours. Mission: think fast and »

Grilled Prawns with a Citrus Garlic Butter -Al fresco Inspiration

April 18, 2010
Grilled Prawns Garlic Butter

A rare day off, the sun was out, and the air springtime warm. A day peacefully spent meddling about in the garden, harvesting the last of the sugar snap peas and planting tomatoes and veggies in their stead, throwing in the occasional play session with the dogs. Video it and soundtrack in some music, and it becomes one of the moments to be shown at a birthday or funeral which evoke the crowd’s tears reminding how great life can be.

Extra crunchy charred prawn eyeballs. Oh yeah!

Shrimp Stir Fry with Sugar Snap Peas – Snow & Sugar Pea Garden Monster

March 15, 2010

There’s an uncontrollable beast on the North end of the garden and it actually comes in two forms: sugar snap peas and snow peas. Our spring peas are like serpants, clinging to everything they can get their tendrils on. Once they latch on, pea flowers shoot out and within 3-4 days, we have fresh peas to munch on. As a matter of fact, the warm sun is encouraging way more pea growth than we can ever imagine so it’s snow pea and sweet pea recipe overload!

Creamy Hot Stove-Top Crab Dip for the Oven-Less

January 27, 2010
Stove Top Crab Dip

I’m often impatient in the kitchen when it comes to having to use the oven to bake a simple dish. Just the thought of having to pre-heat the oven makes me cringe at the waste of time and energy it takes to create a simple meal. It’s a relief for me to be able to adapt a dish that is traditionally baked in the oven to be cooked on the stove. My impatience enjoys the fact that it doesn’t have to wait for the oven to warm to temperature and honestly, I just love cooking on top of fire, like »

Versatile Curry Gravy with Fried Fish (or what ever you heart!)

August 15, 2009
Fried Fish Curry Gravy

I can’t imagine a life without curry. Thinking about it brings a void and desperate plea to my palate, “Noooooo!”  The warm, fragrant combination of spices topped over warm rice, tofu, veggies,  fish or meats is indispensable for me. Long ago, I swore to not live a bland life. I shall not live curry-less.

As versatile as it is delicious, my curry gravy is great accompaniment to almost any dish that needs a quick burst of flavor. Simple olive or grape seed oil, garlic and shallots can quickly bring life and flavor to most things I eat, but sometimes a »

Iron Chef Bloggers in Asheville, NC and Cherry Sauce Recipe

“Let the battle begin!”

It definitely felt like a war during our first full day on the East Coast en route to the Asheville, NC blogger bash.  I won’t divulge into the details about our horrendous experience with !&*%#! Delta Airlines, but what I will say is THANK GOODNESS for the amazing Asheville hospitality and passionate food folks that saved me from sending a three page letter to Delta. I became this (pinching my fingers together) close to going postal on Delta’s terrible infrastructure. Luckily, it was the warmth of Sheridan and Dodie that kept me from un-leashing my inner »

Beautiful Cowboy Cooking – Cast Iron Pans and BBQ Salt Crusted Fish

June 16, 2009
Cast Iron Pans

Until a year ago, I was a fool.

Every time we would peruse our favorite kitchen stores I would gaze longingly at all of the beautiful stainless steel pans shimmering by their storefront windows. “Oh, to own a full set of copper cores…. sigh.”    But for the copper cores one must come with cash, lots of it, and we knew it was a luxury that wasn’t necessary.  (Yes, we could have charged it up, but we don’t endorse that sort of needless spending!)

We did have our one copper core 2 qt. saucepan which is perfect for sauces and »
