But if you throw them together, unforgettable.

Most all of us feel a little guilty for loving them, yet their allure keeps drawing us in. But what is life without a some guilty pleasure?

We are always searching for our next Bonnie and Clyde ice cream and cookie pairing. Sometimes we get a Bonnie and Hank, or a Clyde and Juliet. The are nice. Nothing you would talk bad about. However their pairing is nothing to capture the imagination and fascination of the palate.

Ice cream-cookie pairing is painstaking work finding that perfect match. Cookies to bake. Ice cream to devour. Sometimes I just don’t know how we do it. Oh yeah… Deliciousness!(...)
Read the rest of Cookies and Ice Cream – The Bonnie & Clyde Duo (836 words)

Persimmon Cookies Recipe
These are a gloriously soft, moist cookie. This recipe is as written from my grandmother’s recipe card, with the mere addition of grams added for ease in measurement. Cranberries would be an excellent substitute for the raisins and chocolate chips are another great addition, both requests from Mom. She passed this on to me with the side note: ” ****** from my mom’s very old recipe box****** “. The batter would likely make excellent muffins or as a cake layer. Dough freezes well. Total Prep and Cooking Time: 30 min Makes about 36 cookies.

Rummaging through our kitchen’s “don’t know where else to put it” box, we pulled out this mysterious cookie recipe.
Warning: These chocolate cookies are crack, just like the title and photo suggests (but it isn’t really the hard stuff in the photo. Powdered sugar and palm sugar were the prop fill ins.)

Need your chocolate cookie fix? Here’s a little something for you adapted from the latest book of the dessert master David Lebovitz, “Ready for Dessert“.

Sounds kinda fishy to us. We think he knew all along how addicting these chocolate cookies are and how they will leave you a mess until you get your next chocolate hit.

David’s original chocolate crack cookie recipe calls for sending a mass of almonds through the food processor be pulverized, however our KitchenAid food processor is amongst the dearly departed so a little improvisation took place. After the cash for a replacement has been pried from our grips, we can’t wait to try his original recipe, but until then this adaptation it more than enough to make any chocolate cookie craving quietly purr in submission.

If you twisted my arm and pinched my nipples to force me to name my absolute favorite cookie as a kid, I would have to say “Chocolate Cookie with Peanut Butter Chips.”

Oh such fudgy, chocolatey sweetness rifled with little peanut butter bombs. I love these cookies, and yet for some reason never make them. I don’t know why. They may be a touch more work than the chocolate chunk cookies or my new favorite, the snickerdoodle, but not excessively so. They are certainly every bit as delightful and eye-rollingly good.

In Episode 1, we introduced the dangerous pleasures of the pizookie, a deep-dish-baked cookie topped with ice cream. The comments were filled with sweet tooth adoration, a handful of guilty trembling, and a few expletives in excitement. We had mentioned the unlimited possibilities of pizookies, and since the response was so ecstatic over the first pizookies post, we thought it would be fun to have a series, The Pizookie Files, dedicated solely to the brilliance of pizookies. It shall appear from time to time, here at WORC, and we hope you all enjoy this as much as we do.

The Pizookie Files: Episode 2. Snickerdoodles.

The inspiration for this deep-dish cookie came from a comment on Episode 1, from Carla at ChocolateMoosey. “Have you tried snickerdoodle?” she innocently asked. Now, we had several cookies lined up for the Pizookie files, but suddenly they were all shoved aside. “Snickerdoodle?!!?” I perked.

Snickerdoodle Cookie Recipe

Ingredients

150 g (3/4 c) granulated Sugar
150 g (1 c) Golden Brown Sugar
100 g (1/2 c) unsalted Butter (room temp.)
50 g (1/4 c) Lard or Shortening (room temp.)
2 lrg. Eggs
10 ml (2 t) Vanilla Extract
1/4 t Sea Salt
300 g (2 1/4 c) unbleached, all-purpose Flour
10 g (2 t) Cream of Tartar
5 g (1 t) Baking Soda
15 g (1 T) Cornstarch
@ 100 g (1/2 c) Cinnamon Sugar mix (1 part cinnamon, 3 parts sugar ratio)

Pre-heat oven to 350° F (325° F convection bake)

1. Combine sugars, »

I had a brilliant idea. It was for another addition to our deep-dish-a-la-mode-cookie repertoire, aka pizookies. Aka Sweet Crack. However, there was one minor problem. I had no snickerdoodle cookie recipe for the dough that I wanted to use. There were no snickerdoodle recipes in any of my go-to dessert cookbooks, no family recipes, no nada.

So I embarked on a little snickerdoodle cookie cyber research quest to discover the beauty behind these tasty cinnamon sugar cookies. I knew very well of how snickerdoodle cookies should taste, but there was a particular element to snickerdoodle cookies that I couldn’t place my tongue on. It wasn’t long before I started seeing a trend in the different recipes to see what that element was, cream of tartar. You know, that little white powder so many of us have in our spice drawers and always wonder what the hell it is used for.

Turns out cream of tartar is a cast off from wine making and also primary element in many brands of baking powder. It is actually an acid salt that can help stabilize eggs and impart a slight acidic taste when used in cooking such as in snickerdoodle cookies. It’s that little extra element that contributes to the texture and lends a particularly unique flavor element to the cookies. Fascinating, really, but I still didn’t have any damn snickerdoodle recipe. Many of the recipes I found online were very good, like Shuna’s snickerdoodle recipe that she contributed to Elise’s site Simply Recipes, but I was already in serious “Snickerdoodle” recipe mode and wanted to play with my own creation.

So, I decided to embark upon something I’ve never done before, create a snickerdoodle cookie recipe from scratch.

So, I come home from work and found a package waiting on the dining room table, untouched, glossy and still perfectly sealed. Todd has always been such a gentleman when it comes to waiting for me to open packages first, giving me first dibs at ripping open presents that come in the mail. He knows how excited I get when we get packages from the mail and honestly, I think he gets really roused up seeing me squeal like a kid when I tear in to mail like a kid on Christmas morning. Just for kicks, he could wrap up empty boxes, have me tear into them and I’d still have a blast.

We love getting presents, especially books written by our favorite food bloggers — especially food bloggers who are professional pastry chefs — especially American food bloggers living in Paris — especially gay American food bloggers living in Paris who talk candidly about living with Parisians!

Yes, we received a copy of David Lebovitz’s new book, “The Sweet Life in Paris” and it’s what we call, “Schweeeeet!!!”

Most of you are probably already reading David’s blog and are familiar with his rants about the Parisian lifestyle, how they cut in line, more quirks and of course, chocolate. Well, we’ve only scanned through the book (still fighting over who gets to read it first) and are already laughing at what he has to say about the beautiful, delicious city of Paris and it’s inhabitants.
