If there is a Bonnie & Clyde of summertime desserts, it would be ice cream and cookies.  Individually, they are a couple of trouble makers that may capture your attention for a moment.  A sexy little mischievous one and a handsome punk. But if you throw them together, unforgettable.

Most all of us feel a little guilty for loving them, yet their allure keeps drawing us in. But what is life without a some guilty pleasure?

We are always searching for our next Bonnie and Clyde ice cream and cookie pairing. Sometimes we get a Bonnie and Hank, or a »

This is an open letter of apology to all the mothers of those who work in the service industry. There is no substitute for the absence of hugs and shared holiday meals.  There is no explanation which will ease your hearts of our absence, and for that we are sorry.

Mystery X Cookies – Oatmeal Honey Chocolate Chip Cookies

December 13, 2010
Honey Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

don’t forget the milk

Rummaging through our kitchen’s “don’t know where else to put it” box, we pulled out this mysterious cookie recipe. It was written in a clean gracefully-looping woman’s handwriting with nothing more than very basic ingredients and instructions. Neither of us had a clue who had given it to us, but that’s not about to stop us from trying a new cookie recipe.»

S’mores on a Stick – Marshmallow Pops!

December 9, 2010
Thumbnail image for S’mores on a Stick – Marshmallow Pops!

Everyone has been giggling over Sunday’s adorable Chocolate Peppermint Marshmallow Pops.  Although they are super cute (check out Katie’s too), easy to make, and very festive for the Christmas season, they aren’t my favorite.

Even as a kid, I was never a big marshmallow fan. At least in it’s normal solid state.  Marshmallows in the big colorful boxes of sugar, I mean cereal… Pass the cheerios, please. Rocky Road ice cream… Meh.   But marshmallows which had been made molten under the flame or from bathing in mug hot chocolate, those made me giddy.

Orange Marmalade Cookies with Orange Zest Icing

August 15, 2010

Rarely does a new cookie recipe make it into our abode’s “must make” repertoire. With our household favorites being so loved (like the chocolate chunk, snickerdoodle w/ Viet cinnamon, and oatmeal rum raisin recipes), a new find has to be pretty damn good to pass up baking an old favorite. These orange marmalade cookies with orange zest icing are pretty damn good.»

Chocolate Crack Cookies from David Lebovitz, Ready for Dessert

April 27, 2010
Chocolate Cookie Recipes

Warning: These chocolate cookies are crack, just like the title and photo suggests (but it isn’t really the hard stuff in the photo.  Powdered sugar and palm sugar were the prop fill ins.)

Need your chocolate cookie fix?  Here’s a little something for you adapted from the latest book of the dessert master David Lebovitz, “Ready for Dessert“.

David’s chocolate crack cookies are highly addictive chocolate bombs of ecstasy that he originally crafted in the kitchen of Chez Panisse.  He innocently claims the name comes from the “craggy fissures.” At that time it was more appropriate to come up with »

Chocolate Cookies with Peanut Butter Chips

October 17, 2009
Chocolate cookies with peanut butter chips

If you twisted my arm and pinched my nipples to force me to name my absolute favorite cookie as a kid, I would have to say “Chocolate Cookie with Peanut Butter Chips.”

Oh such fudgy, chocolatey sweetness rifled with little peanut butter bombs. I love these cookies, and yet for some reason never make them. I don’t know why. They may be a touch more work than the chocolate chunk cookies or my new favorite, the snickerdoodle, but not excessively so. They are certainly every bit as delightful and eye-rollingly good.»

Deep Dish Snickerdoodle a la Mode – Episode 2 of the Pizookie Files

May 21, 2009
Snickerdoodles a la mode

In Episode 1, we introduced the dangerous pleasures of the pizookie, a deep-dish-baked cookie topped with ice cream.  The comments were filled with sweet tooth adoration,  a handful of guilty trembling, and a few expletives in excitement.  We had mentioned the unlimited possibilities of pizookies, and since the response was so ecstatic over the first pizookies post, we thought it would be fun to have a series, The Pizookie Files,  dedicated solely to the brilliance of pizookies.  It shall appear from time to time, here at WORC, and we hope you all enjoy this as much as we do.»

Snickerdoodle – Cinnamon Sugar Cookie goodness!

May 18, 2009

I had a brilliant idea. It was for another addition to our deep-dish-a-la-mode-cookie repertoire, aka pizookies. Aka Sweet Crack. However, there was one minor problem. I had no snickerdoodle cookie recipe for the dough that I wanted to use.   There were no snickerdoodle recipes in any of my go-to dessert cookbooks, no family recipes, no nada.

So I embarked on a little snickerdoodle cookie cyber research quest to discover the beauty behind these tasty cinnamon sugar cookies. I knew very well of how snickerdoodle cookies should taste, but there was a particular element to snickerdoodle cookies that I couldn’t »

David Lebovitz’s Madeleines- “The Sweet Life in Paris” Preview

So, I come home from work and found a package waiting on the dining room table, untouched, glossy and still perfectly sealed. Todd has always been such a gentleman when it comes to waiting for me to open packages first, giving me first dibs at ripping open presents that come in the mail. He knows how excited I get when we get packages from the mail and honestly, I think he gets really roused up seeing me squeal like a kid when I tear in to mail like a kid on Christmas morning. Just for kicks, he could wrap up »
