Sometimes a sweet treat is all it takes to boost the spirit. We know this well, the power of a great piece of candy to make us feel like a kid again. Normally, we don’t eat much candy but when fresh, homemade candy is put in front of us, we’re definitely ready to indulge.

Last year we were asked to photograph and style Sweet Confections candy cookbook written by amazing Nina Wanat. The 5 day shoot was such a treat to be surrounded by homemade candies, all made with love by Nina. You can read her interview from Lark Books »

The Fruit Burglar and Chocolate Cherry Crisp

August 1, 2011
chocolate cherry crisp recipe

I live with a fruit thief. It’s not Sierra, and I’m not talking about the neighborhood possums. I tend to think of us as living near them, not with them. No. I’m talking about the adorable and deceptively innocent looking Diane.

Take a road-trip with her and you’ll see what I mean. On a quiet little drive through the countryside and happen to pass an ripe apple tree growing alongside the road, the car will be stopping. Then I will pry the fingernails off my thigh which caused the abrupt interruption, we will look around for witnesses, then climb through »

Mystery X Cookies – Oatmeal Honey Chocolate Chip Cookies

December 13, 2010
Honey Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

don’t forget the milk

Rummaging through our kitchen’s “don’t know where else to put it” box, we pulled out this mysterious cookie recipe. It was written in a clean gracefully-looping woman’s handwriting with nothing more than very basic ingredients and instructions. Neither of us had a clue who had given it to us, but that’s not about to stop us from trying a new cookie recipe.»

S’mores on a Stick – Marshmallow Pops!

December 9, 2010

Everyone has been giggling over Sunday’s adorable Chocolate Peppermint Marshmallow Pops.  Although they are super cute (check out Katie’s too), easy to make, and very festive for the Christmas season, they aren’t my favorite.

Even as a kid, I was never a big marshmallow fan. At least in it’s normal solid state.  Marshmallows in the big colorful boxes of sugar, I mean cereal… Pass the cheerios, please. Rocky Road ice cream… Meh.   But marshmallows which had been made molten under the flame or from bathing in mug hot chocolate, those made me giddy.

There’s an obvious cult happening all over the internet and home kitchens. All the wonderful and cute blame goes to adorable Angie at Bakerella. Honestly (and unfortunately) we didn’t discover the world of Bakerella and Cake Pops until we met Angie at our last Food Blog Forum seminar in Atlanta. There was an energetic buzz around Angie and her fans were clasping to her new book, Cake Pops, like it was the hottest new toy in the food world.

Inspiration from the Sweet Air of Atlanta- Sweet Potato Bars w/ Chocolate

September 15, 2010
sweet potato pie recipe

Atlanta Food Blog Forum rocked!  Until this last week our only experiences w/ Atlanta have entailed epic misguided treks within the Atlanta International Airport courtesy of Delta and delayed red-eye flights. Not pleasant.

However, we’re not ones to judge an area by its airports (or freeways for that matter), so we were excited to experience a true tidbit of Atlanta.  With the excuse of FBF’s Atlanta Seminar propelling us back to the east coast, we barefooted our way past TSA, watched a movie and a half, ate a few pretzels, then gathered our bags and settled into the warm, sweet »

Chocolate Crack Cookies from David Lebovitz, Ready for Dessert

April 27, 2010
Chocolate Cookie Recipes

Warning: These chocolate cookies are crack, just like the title and photo suggests (but it isn’t really the hard stuff in the photo.  Powdered sugar and palm sugar were the prop fill ins.)

Need your chocolate cookie fix?  Here’s a little something for you adapted from the latest book of the dessert master David Lebovitz, “Ready for Dessert“.

David’s chocolate crack cookies are highly addictive chocolate bombs of ecstasy that he originally crafted in the kitchen of Chez Panisse.  He innocently claims the name comes from the “craggy fissures.” At that time it was more appropriate to come up with »

Chocolate Mousse Recipe – For all your Valentines

February 12, 2010
Chocolate Mousse Recipe

Valentines week is here to spoil every sweetheart in your life who is deserving of some chocolate love. A little whipped cream, strawberries and huge dollop of silky chocolate mousse says it all to show you care. We’ve already started celebrating and this sweet treat never gets dull. In fact, it’s a little too easy to eat and don’t be surprised if you inhaled a huge bowl of this chocolate mousse in less than a minute!

Chocolate mousse is luscious.  The soft, billowy, creamy texture given to chocolate by folding in whipped cream and swiss meringue is absolute heaven. Combine »

Chocolate Cookies with Peanut Butter Chips

October 17, 2009
Chocolate cookies with peanut butter chips

If you twisted my arm and pinched my nipples to force me to name my absolute favorite cookie as a kid, I would have to say “Chocolate Cookie with Peanut Butter Chips.”

Oh such fudgy, chocolatey sweetness rifled with little peanut butter bombs. I love these cookies, and yet for some reason never make them. I don’t know why. They may be a touch more work than the chocolate chunk cookies or my new favorite, the snickerdoodle, but not excessively so. They are certainly every bit as delightful and eye-rollingly good.»

Portrait of a Gourmand - A gourmand is simply, someone who takes pleasure in food and eating. This is a continuing photographic series of gourmands, from all walks of life. There are many gourmands that inspire us in profound ways that make us experience and think about food differently. These portraits essays share their amazing stories.

Today’s highlight is actually of two gourmands, the lovely couple, Dan and Jael Rattigan of French Broad Luscious Chocolates, aka The Chocolate Lounge. The only thing sexier than this charming couple is their collection of hand made, artisan chocolates, which are pure chocolate bliss. »
