Pork and KimChi Noodle Stir Fry

It was last month that we photographed an assignment that involved way too many quinoa recipes. How many exactly? Let’s just say that we were blinded by quinoa grains and couldn’t stomach another bite of anything whole grain. It was an assignment that could have benefited our personal health, unlike some chocolate and cocktail shoots we’ve been working on lately. But after the 8th recipe test and shot, we were hankering to go back to shooting and eating chocolate.

Don’t get us wrong cause we »

Garlicky Winter Greens and Chickpea Salad

by White on Rice Couple January 6, 2014
Thumbnail image for Garlicky Winter Greens and Chickpea Salad

Before we left on our crazy seven week Bountiful book tour and jet down to Southern Australia, we took a look at our dormant and sleepy garden. And then we sighed, wondering if it’s too early to try to seed for Winter veggies. It’s usually during end of October to beginning of December that the garden takes a bow and begins her dormant period. She’s been busy all summer with our a few hundred pounds of fruit and a load of tomatoes.

It’s a much »

Refreshing and Light Sesame Cucumber Carrot Salad

Thumbnail image for Refreshing and Light Sesame Cucumber Carrot Salad

It’s this time of year that everyone around us seems to be sharing lists of resolutions and aspirations of what their vision of 2014 could be. For us? We’ll just say that instead of listing-out resolutions, we started off New Years Day with a big batch of yummy fried chicken and some extra sips of proseco. That’s how we roll, as of late, by enjoying things that make us happy, even if it includes delicious moments of crispy chicken skin and a drink. Or Two.»

Pomegranate Gin Cocktail to Celebrate all of 2013

When the first few days of 2013 passed, we knew it was going to be a big year and a year of many firsts. We love diving into “firsts” because the excitement of wondering what’s going to happen is thrilling.  Our first cookbook, Bountiful, was going to be released in October and back in January 2013, it felt like a long road away. Before we knew it, we were on the road visiting so many of you in some of our favorite cities.  Can’t believe »

Ricotta Hotcakes Recipe: Stories & Video from Australia Trip

by White on Rice Couple December 19, 2013
Thumbnail image for Ricotta Hotcakes Recipe: Stories & Video from Australia Trip

We thought we were just going to eat our way through Australia when the amazing folks at Tourism Australia, Air New Zealand and Go Mighty, offered us an experience to die for. There were many questions that floated in our bewildered heads as to why were were invited to visit the food and wine regions of Australia. First of all, we didn’t know that there was  Australia’s incredible local food culture and second, what did we do to deserve the invite?  For what-ever reasons why we were »

Chocolate, Berry and Cream Cheese Danish

Rarely do I ever watch television. Call me a tv-hermit, but between the newspaper, the internet and twitter, I seem to be caught up with everything that I need to know.

Then there was the straight 12 hours I sat on a flight from Australia to Los Angeles that forced me to either sleep (which wasn’t all that easy) or stare at the blank tv screen in front of me. I felt helpless, sleepless and restless. Reading wasn’t so much of an option because I »

Asparagus Bacon Spring Rolls Tapas Party: a Collaboration with West Elm

When thinking of all the reasons why we love the holidays so much, a million thoughts come to mind. And when we think of the reasons what makes the holidays so stressful, a few pop up to the surface. But avoiding the crazy shopping malls pretty much alleviates all the stress already. Maybe we’re getting old, but as the years go by, our holidays become so much less stressful and quite honestly, so much more enjoyable.

Bye bye to all the fancy holiday gatherings we »

BBQ Turkey Pizza with Your Leftover Thanksgiving Turkey

by White on Rice Couple November 29, 2013
Thumbnail image for BBQ Turkey Pizza with Your Leftover Thanksgiving Turkey

We’ve been there, done that, eaten it and cooked it. Post Thankgiving always included a lunch of leftover turkey-something.

Sandwiches, spring rolls, quesedillas and turkey soup were our automatic go-to-gotta-eat-up-all-this-turkey dishes. This year, we’re committed to making something different that didn’t involve the turkey to be sandwiched in between something or simmered in broth.

We’ve broken all tradition and are making bbq turkey pizza. Why not? Everyone loves a bbq chicken pizza, so it seems perfect to do one with turkey. Let’s get rid of »

Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Lemon Mustard Parsley Dressing

Now everyone, don’t bum-rush to the kitchen all at once now because I know you’re super excited about another brussels sprouts recipe. Or at least I’m hoping you’re as hungry and excited as I am. And if you’re not, you’re probably one of the brussels sprouts haters that can’t stand to re-live those terrible toddler moments when your parents force-fed you boiled brussels sprouts. Am I right? or am I right?

Because of all you brussels-sprouts-haters, I’ve made it a life long mission to keep »

Sausage Potatoes au Gratin

by White on Rice Couple November 18, 2013
Thumbnail image for Sausage Potatoes au Gratin

Every year, two big batches of Todd’s famous potatoes au gratin makes it way to our Thanksgiving table. It’s one of those dishes that the whole family is religiously (and hopelessly) in love with. All these eaters ask about the potatoes au gratin first, before anyone ever asks about the turkey. Regardless of how much decadent, calorie-laden, decadent goodness hides behind every serving, there’s rarely ever much left over. It’s occasions like these that when it comes to calorie-conversation, we all say, “who cares?”

Bourbon Dark Chocolate Crack Cookies Recipe

Thumbnail image for Bourbon Dark Chocolate Crack Cookies Recipe

There are cookies, and then there are bad-ass cookies. Ones that are nearly impossible to mindlessly eat. After the first bite, they stop you and make you take a look at what it was you just sunk your teeth into. These are one of those.

A deliciously, rich chocolate and bourbon rifted cookie. A chocolate cookie with a little swagger.

This little bad boy is originally inspired by a cookie from David Lebovitz’s amazing Ready for Dessert. We’ve been smitten with his recipe for quite »

Apple Spiced Coffee Cake

Thumbnail image for Apple Spiced Coffee Cake

Before we left for Australia there was a bit more pantry cleaning we needed to do, trying to minimize any produce going to waste. Diane had roasted up the teriyaki glazed brussels sprouts for us to munch on, but there were apples, persimmons, and tons of garden fresh limes which most likely weren’t going to survive the two weeks we’d be gone.

For the persimmons and limes we called in Diane’s parents, as they are always willing to take any of those we have to »

Brussels Sprouts and Bacon Parmesan Pizza

Pizza. Ahh, beautiful pizza. With a thin, bubbly crust which is slightly charred, and topped with a perfect balance of sauce, toppings and cheese. It is something worth obsessing over, and boy do we obsess over pizza.

Pizza is often our source of exploration when we set out to explore a town. Just about anywhere we travel, we’ll attempt to hunt down the area’s best offerings in pizza with the wood-fired tokens of devotion that often satisfy our personal cravings the most. We have been »

Sweet Onion “Crack-Dip” Recipe and Bountiful Dinner with KitchenAid

by White on Rice Couple November 4, 2013

Stop everything and make this sweet onion dip recipe. Though the recipe is our creation, we can’t take credit for the nickname. It belongs to a little gathering of friends always labels it as “crack dip”. So when it came time to sharing it again in our cookbook, Bountiful, we lovingly added the new name to the final draft. Thankfully, our Abrams editor was open-minded enough to let us coin this term in print because  the nickname really is fitting. And delicious.

Our crack-dip is »

Teriyaki Glazed Roasted Brussels Sprouts

A quick dinner before a long trip. That’s what’s been happening over the last 4 days since we’ve returned from New York City and Seattle. We don’t feel like such losers when we minimize food waste, especially when it comes to brussels sprouts. We went through another fridge-clearing session after shooting for two days this week and as always, we’re trying to eat up what we can before we head out again, this time to Australia. Can you believe it? We still can’t believe we’re »

Sigrid’s Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting from The Pioneer Woman

To make a long story short, we triangulated the US in the last seven days from Long Beach, to New York City to Seattle and back to Long Beach. After stumbling off the last flight and back into the house, we found Ree’s new book waiting for us on the dinner table. What a sweet treat to come home to after a week of travel. This made us smile. It wasn’t soon after, we were craving to cook again and before you knew it, we »

We love NYC, there’s no doubt that. The city is a beast on its own, but around every corner, there’s a gem of a find. The energy, vibe, food and people keep us awake into the wee hours of the night.  And best of all, OXO headquarters is in NYC and what better way to celebrate the launch of our cookbook than to partner with these wonderful folks.

We’ve always loved their tools. It was years ago that we first found their vegetable swivel peeler »

Breast cancer is a very personal topic for us, as we have had many dear friends and family who have been diagnosed with this deadly disease. One of our aunts is a survivor and the journey through her chemo and healing was challenging in every sense of the word. But it was something that bonded our family closer together and reminded us the value of life and the importance to help bring out awareness.

October is breast cancer awareness month and due to the long »

Poached Eggs in Tomato Sauce, On Toast {make this now}

by White on Rice Couple October 21, 2013
Thumbnail image for Poached Eggs in Tomato Sauce, On Toast {make this now}

I’ve started to use this phrase {make this now} more often on the blog rather than just in conversation. We’ve all experienced this “omg, this is amazing….” type of revelation for particular dishes. When the sensations hit just right on the tongue or when that “wow” moment hits the palette, I can’t help it but to tell everyone to make this now. Thus, the method to my madness when I say {make this now} because when I’m blown away at at how simple and delicious »
